A Jewish proverb says God could not be everywhere so He created mothers. We tend to say nice things about our moms, especially on Mother’s Day. We show appreciation for their work and prayers. We especially want to thank Mom for her influence on our spiritual lives. They introduced us to the Bible. They dragged us to Sunday school and youth group. They pray day and night on our behalf. So thank you mom for all you did and all you do!!
Here are three things that characterize an Excellent Mom:
Proverbs 31:30 says, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” The world doesn’t value this in our culture. They value self, career, and independence. The Excellent Mom, according to Proverbs 31, is devoted to God with a sincere faith. Moms, if you model Christianity in your home, have a right heart attitude, and are a woman of prayer; you will have an impact.
Susanna Wesley spent one hour alone each day praying for her 17 children. Two of her sons, John and Charles, had a major impact on the Evangelical Revival in England. Susanna spent one hour a week with each child instructing them in the Bible and that produced great spiritual fruit. This Proverbs 31 woman has a faith that is shaped and empowered by the Word of God.
Proverbs 31:10-12 says, “An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.” When God created marriage it was not an experiment. He had a plan: the man leads and the woman submits (Eph. 5:22, 23) believing God will work through His design. The man is to be a servant-leader not a dictator. The wife, while she submits, is not a doormat. She is his partner. This woman is a strong resourceful woman and the man is not threatened by this.
Proverbs 31:28 says, “Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her.” Her kids see that God, their dad, the home, and then work, are her priorities. The Bible says Women of Excellence are those who fear God. It was true in 970 BC and it is true today! We pray you had a blessed Mother’s Day!!
